Intern Saves Company Money During Process Technical Due Diligence

Nova-Tech, Inc., an aseptic manufacturer of a variety of animal health pharmaceuticals, was founded in 1988 in Grand Island, Nebraska and currently employs approximately 50 persons. Since moving to a brand new facility in 2011, Nova-Tech is one of the largest FDA-registered parenteral injectable manufacturers for animal health in the United States.

Situation

In parallel to its continuing long-term growth phase, Nova-Tech was seeking added technical assistance to spearhead timely environmental due diligence, regarding current and expected process stream effluent demands on the local utility, not only to show ongoing compliance, but also to steward the sound relationship the company has with the local community.

Solution

In partnership with Nebraska MEP and the College of Engineering at the University of NebraskaLincoln, an engineering student was placed at the site location over the course of a summer as part of the P3-Partners in Pollution Prevention-internship program. The student completed an assessment of overall water demand and effluent generation, which now forms the basis for continued compliance metrics and projections for upward growth at the company site.
