ISO Certification creates growth for Pacific Engineering, Inc.
Pacific Engineering, Inc. (PEI), is a one-stop engineering, design, modeling and simulation, and manufacturing company headquartered in Roca, NE. The company employed 20 people in 2023.
PEI has been performing engineering design services, product development, prototyping, and manufacturing complex, high-strength, lightweight, composite, and metal components since 1998.
PEI’s staff has conducted product design and sophisticated dynamic and shock analyses for industry as well as government agencies. We have vast expertise in metal-to-composite joining, laminate design, and vibration and dynamic analysis. The staff has extensive experience in structural design and analysis, pressure vessel and sandwich composite design, modeling and finite element analysis, including Navy submarine and surface combatants composite components shock analysis, submarine and surface ship composite launch tube analysis, and failure investigations/assessments.
We have developed and follow manufacturing processes and a quality control system that allows accurate fabrication of critical DOD components that meet DCMA standards.
The Situation
Pacific Engineering is experienced in producing composite materials and analysis for military and government contracts. Vice-President Dexter Myers knew that ISO 9001 certification was a necessary step in getting a first look and securing those contracts. The quality management system would allow the company to properly document its processes, roles and responsibilities and promote growth. PEI met Manufacturing Extension Partnership staff at a local business trade show at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. PEI recognized the value that the Nebraska MEP could be to a growing manufacturing firm such as PEI so we pursued exploring a relationship.
The Solution
Following an initial strategy development and deployment session with the Nebraska MEP, Pacific Engineering wanted to pursue ISO 9001 certification. The Nebraska MEP partnered with Dan Johnson of Husker Quality Management Systems (HQMS) to take PEI through the process. HQMS mentored and tutored PEI technical staff in the details of how the ISO system should be implemented at PEI. HQMS came on-site and conducted hands on training as well as conducted numerous Zoom/Reams meetings. The expert knowledge of the HQMS team in ISO standards helped PEI obtain our certificate in a shorter period. PEI staff now uses that knowledge on every project we receive which has made our customers extremely satisfied and has increased repeated orders and more new business from them.
